Rockville Chiropractic Care Those Involved In Car Accidents

One of the common conditions I treat in my Rockville practice is neck pain or shoulder pain after a car accident. People are often very surprised at how long the pain lasts and how intense it can be, even after a low speed accident. The pain initially feels like other muscle and joint pain, or like just a crick in her neck, but people find that the intensity and duration of the pain is more severe. I have personally had an attorney as a patient who used to dismiss people\'s complaint of whiplash, and he had even argued against them in court. He was embarrassed when it happened to him, and he was saying the same things that he\'d previously been dismissive of. A common question is \"why does this pain seem different then other pain?\". Recent research (Spine (Phila Pa 1976). 2015 Mar 17.The Rapid and Progressive Degeneration of the Cervical Multifidus in Whiplash: A MRI study of Fatty Infiltration) from the medical school at Northwestern University has shown that in some individuals with chronic neck pain have changes in the muscles where an unusual amount of fat has infiltrated the muscles of the neck. This is not an obesity issue, there does not seem to be an association with this happening because of the size or shape of the patient. After one or two weeks after the accident, scientists found these changes in about a quarter of patients, those most likely to develop chronic pain, buy using a special kind of MRI that measures the fat/water ratio in tissues. The infiltration of fat is thought to be associated with atrophy of the muscles. The author of the papers states that conventional physical therapy is often not an effective treatment for this kind of pain. As chiropractors, we are trained in specific techniques that the vast majority of our patients have found to be helpful with this kind of pain. We also are licensed to provide physical therapy, and I find that having a wide range of techniques helps me treat a wider range of Rockville patients. While there has not been a specific study on the effect of chiropractic on this fatty infiltration, there has been a recent meta-analysis that shows that strong recommendations can be made for the treatment of chronic neck pain with manipulation, manual therapy, and exercise in combination with other modalities. (J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 2014 Jan;37(1):42-63.Evidence-based guidelines for the chiropractic treatment of adults with neck pain). This is the standard treatment regimen that I use, and patients have found effective. If you have questions about my treatment, please feel free to contact Rosa Chiropractic & Physical Therapy.
