Infertility

If you, or someone you know has been struggling with infertility in Perry Hall, you are not alone.  According to the CDC there are more than 6 million women in the United States who are considered infertile based on the following definition:  infertility is a couple\'s inability to become pregnant after a year of intercourse without the use of contraception.

Most people have heard of the many medical interventions to remedy this situation, such as hormone therapy or In-Vetro fertilization (IVF).  Statistics show that costs for fertility treatments can range from $6,000 per cycle for fertility medications and up to $10,000 per cycle for assisted reproductive technologies like IVF.  Not only are many of these treatments not covered by insurance plans, but there are a number of concerns regarding the safety of these treatments and the long term effects of manipulating the female hormones.

Alternatives to Overcome Infertility in Perry Hall

Studies have found that many fertility issues could be associated with improper nervous system function, poor nutrition, high stress and poor lifestyle habits.  Now some of these, like nutrition and stress, may seem obvious to you, but how does the nervous system impact fertility?  In life, every function in our body, even reproduction, is controlled and accomplished under the direction of the nervous system.  Just as we cannot tell our heart to beat, we also cannot consciously control our reproductive organs.  The autonomic nervous system, which controls organ function within the body, is ultimately controlled by the central nervous system which consists of our brain and spinal cord.  When physical, emotion and chemical stress accumulates in the body it creates restrictions in the spinal column, called subluxations, changing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the body which can negatively impact the hypothalamus and pituitary gland.  These glands are largely responsible for producing hormones such as follicle-stimulating hormone and lutenizing hormone which are key to reproductive function.  Additionally, if nerve stimulation to organs such as the fallopian tubes are restricted due to subluxations, it is believed to decrease the peristaltic movement that carries the egg from the ovary to the uterus.

A study in 2003 followed 15 women ranging in age from 22 - 65 who reported a history of infertility while under chiropractic care.  Within 2 - 20 months of starting chiropractic care, 14 of the 15 women delivered a healthy baby.  The 65 year old woman did not become pregnant, she did, however, start having a menstrual cycle after a lifetime without one.  This is one of many recent studies which have been conducted regarding the benefits of chiropractic care for health issues other than pain.
